State and Community Tobacco Control Research Initiative

State and Community Tobacco Control Research

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) has funded the State and Community Tobacco Control (SCTC) Research Initiative since 2011. Cooperative agreements were awarded to seven research projects and one Coordinating Center. The research conducted by the initiative addresses important, understudied aspects of state and community tobacco control policy and media interventions. The initiative’s four main research areas are:

  • Secondhand smoke policies
  • Tobacco tax and pricing policies
  • Tobacco industry marketing and promotion, and mass media countermeasures
  • Community and social norms

The SCTC Research Web site serves as a public access portal for highlighting SCTC research projects, publications, and products.
