Gathering Information Beyond Effectiveness to Enhance Dissemination: Using the RE-AIM Framework for the Evaluation of Physical Activity Interventions
Greet Cardon, from Ghent University in Belgium, recently organized a symposium to present applications of the RE-AIM framework to physical activity interventions delivered in Finland, Belgium, and the United States. The presentation introduces the RE-AIM framework with specific examples of data needs, reporting methods and demonstrate the potential for state and national level physical activity interventions delivered through community, clinical, and school settings.

The workshop held in May was entitled, "Applying RE-AIM to Enhance the Impact of Your Intervention." The program was directed by Ellen Iverson from University of California and Karen Coleman from Southern California Permanente Medical Group.

Their session discussed the importance of and recommended criteria for external validity reporting, applied these criteria to a review of the childhood obesity literature, and illustrated composite "metrics" to summarize public health impact.
