Initiatives developed by the IS team seek to strategically advance the field to promote the next generation of implementation studies to more rapidly improve population and public health.

The Evidence-Based Cancer Control Programs (EBCCP) website helps transform cancer control research into evidence-based community and clinical practice. EBCCP provides program planners and implementers in healthcare and public health settings with easy access to more than 180 research-tested cancer prevention and control interventions, implementation materials, and other resources to support program adaptation and use. The Scaling-up and Maintaining Evidence-based Interventions to Maximize Impact on Cancer (SUMMIT) initiative aims reduce cancer-related deaths by significantly increasing both lung cancer screening rates among populations at high risk for lung cancer and tobacco use treatment services among cancer survivors. SUMMIT includes four research projects that will collectively advance the science of scale-up and sustainment to increase the broad, long-term delivery of cancer prevention and control interventions. The Consortium for Cancer Implementation Science (CCIS), founded by NCI in 2019, focuses on cancer control priorities, cross-collaboration, and innovative solutions in implementation science. CCIS seeks to develop a new approach for the field to work together to address key challenges and identify and develop new areas of investigation toward advancing the implementation science agenda in cancer control. These efforts have been actualized by the work of coordinated action groups, the creation of public goods, and discussion of field priorities at annual meetings. Learn more about CCIS.
Legacy Programs
The Implementation Science Centers in Cancer Control (ISC3) were collaborative research centers designed to improve cancer control through creation of “laboratories” that studied implementation efforts in clinical and community settings, developed novel IS methods and measures, executed innovative pilot projects, enhanced data resources, and disseminated results among the cancer research community. The goal of the network was to reduce the burden of cancer by enhancing the design and delivery of implementation strategies for evidence-based cancer control. Learn more about ISC3.

Sponsored by NCI, the Speeding Research-tested Interventions (SPRINT) program was designed to foster, grow, and nurture an innovation ecosystem for interventionists. The program curriculum was developed and delivered by instructors with extensive startup and teaching experience, providing hands-on training and engagement with industry to successfully transform cancer control innovations into market-ready products. The goal was to create research-tested behavioral interventions that are ready to be put into real-world practice.
