Stephanie Hernandez, MPH

Stephanie Hernandez, MPH, is an iCURE Post-Baccalaureate Fellow in the Metabolic Epidemiology Branch of the Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics with a secondary appointment in the Behavioral Research Program’s Tobacco Control Research Branch. 

Ms. Hernandez’s research interests include cancer prevention, health equity, and the social and behavioral factors that contribute to cancer-related behaviors and disparities. She is particularly interested in understanding how social determinants of health, health communication, and access to care contribute to cancer disparities among underserved populations. 

Prior to joining NCI, Ms. Hernandez earned her Master of Public Health in Health Behavior Health Promotion from the University of Arizona, where she also earned a Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Anthropology and a Bachelor of Science in Public Health. During her graduate training, Ms. Hernandez’s research examined the relationship between social determinants of health and H. Pylori infection among Mexican-Origin adults, as well as approaches to improving health communication and shared decision-making.
