Perspectives on Cancer and Aging

Blood or marrow transplantation (BMT) is an established curative therapy for patients with hematologic malignancies. Unfortunately, the high intensity of therapeutic exposures for BMT coupled with prolonged periods of immune suppression after BMT increase the burden of morbidity. In this webinar, Dr. Smita Bhatia described the current evidence regarding the impact of BMT on aging trajectories and explored possible mechanistic bases for accelerated aging associated with BMT. Dr. Ashley Rosko described the physiologic trajectories of aging among adult patients undergoing BMT and examined the use of aging biomarkers as objective measures of fitness during the peri-transplant period.

This webinar is part of the Perspectives on Cancer and Aging: The Arti Hurria Memorial Webinar Series. It is co-hosted by the NCI Behavioral Research Program and Epidemiology and Genomics Research Program.
