Tobacco Control Research Branch (TCRB)

Mission

The Tobacco Control Research Branch (TCRB) leads and collaborates on research and disseminates evidence-based findings to prevent, treat, and control tobacco use in order to create a world free of tobacco use and related cancer and suffering. TCRB is within the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) Behavioral Research Program (BRP), in the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences (DCCPS).

Scientific Priorities

TCRB considers tobacco to include the range of products on the market, including cigarettes, cigars, pipes, smokeless tobacco, electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS), hookah, nicotine pouches, and other products.

  • Marketing of tobacco products
  • Epidemiology of tobacco use behaviors and attitudes
  • Determinants of tobacco use, nicotine dependence, and co-use with other substances
  • Global tobacco control
  • Use of media and policies to reduce tobacco exposure
  • Secondhand smoke exposure
  • Interventions for populations that experience tobacco-related health disparities
  • Tobacco industry documents
  • Multilevel interventions for tobacco use prevention and cessation
  • Health risks of tobacco products
  • Tobacco use and cessation in cancer screening, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship
